Raytown Police Successfully Complete Crime Reporting Review

Raytown Chief of Police James B. Lynch announced today (05-05-2015) that the Raytown Police Department has successfully completed a Quality Assurance Review (QAR,) a review of crime reporting, classification and clearance. The review found that the Raytown Police met Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) guidelines.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) selected the Raytown Police Department for participation in the National Uniform Crime Reporting Quality Assurance Review. Each state’s UCR program and contributing agencies are routinely subject to review, at least once every three years, to evaluate the state’s compliance with national UCR guidelines. The last review in Raytown was completed in 2012.

The review included data from January through June, 2014, regarding:

  • Classification and Scoring

  • Arrests

  • Clearances

  • Jurisdiction

  • Property

  • Offenders

  • Hate Crime

  • Law Enforcement Officers Killed or Assaulted (LEOKA)

The FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Audit Unit conducts QARs to assess an agency’s data to ensure compliance with program requirements and to gauge the accuracy, completeness and consistency of reported crime data.

The Raytown Police Department feels that it is important for its residents to be informed about crime trends in their area, and encourages everyone to view the Raytown Police 2014 Annual Report at http://www.raytownpolice.org, for more detailed information about crime in Raytown. The report takes a comprehensive look at overall police activity, crime statistics, community activities, and features various divisions and special units within the department.

While UCR crime data, which can be complex, was reported as required, it was not used in the annual report. The number of times each crime occurred was reported, instead. The end result was a more accurate, simple, and comprehensive view of crime in our city.
